Glaucoma
What Is Glaucoma?
In a healthy eye, fluid fills the eye at the same rate at which drains, resulting in constant pressure.
If the drainage system gets blocked, the pressure inside the eye increases, resulting in a condition called glaucoma that can damage the optic nerve. If this damage is permanent, visual information cannot be properly sent to the brain. Glaucoma patients often experience blind spots or even complete blindness.
Glaucoma treatment varies depending on the cause of drainage problems, ranging from medicated eye drops to laser surgery.
Regular testing is the best way to detect glaucoma because damage from glaucoma is often serious and permanent.. To schedule a glaucoma test or talk about treatment, contact Dr. Sastry's office today.
